Babymoon at Gaylord National Harbor
at 34 weeks, we realized we hadn’t really spent any alone time together, just him + i, alone for a weekend.
our first babymoon was spent at turks + caicos, which holds a very special place in our hearts. the sunsets, softest sand + memories we’ll cherish for a lifetime. second time around, with zayan in tow, right after my husband’s bar exams (two to be exact, back to back, for va + ca!) we traveled to san francisco, then to mexico, to san diego + finally back home. it was amazing to experience so much as a family of three before aarya’s arrival.
this time around, with two kids at home, we wanted to stay closer to home + keep it relaxed. the Gaylord National Harbor was the perfect location, with plenty to do + see!
walking into the beautiful lobby, the holiday decor sets the mood. there’s a huge display of custom made gingerbread houses, showcasing all of the national monuments in DC. the details leave you in awe.
once we checked in, we walked through the atrium, surrounded by the natural beauty of the greenery + water fountain. with shops, cafes + restaurants in every little corner. we attended the festive JOY! show, which is a fun must-see performance held in the atrium in the evening.
the view from our balcony!
we had dinner reservations at the Old Hickory Steakhouse
i don’t even know where to start, the ambience, every dish so very well prepared by Chef Anthony Gitangu, our gracious + informative waiter, steve. every detail of this restuarant left us amazed. it has placed itself on my top ten restaurant experiences in DC. i promise you, you’ll enjoy every bite of food placed in front of you!
the restaurant’s entrance, beautiful!
what i am left craving, is the dessert (of course!) it was the hot chocolate but made parisian style. literally melted chocolate with a sprinkle of sea salt + freshly made heavy whipped cream. it was SO good!
the following day, we had tickets to enjoy ICE! an indoor wonderland with two million pounds of ice sculptures hand-carved by 35 artisans from Harbin, China. the theme this year is Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. click here for tickets + enter SOCIAL17 to receive a special discount!
our babymoon was exactly what we needed, a little time alone to refresh + reconnect before welcoming our third addition isA.
