Ramadan Decorations and Preparations!
With Ramadan around the corner, it’s time to start preparing. I love to take the time to decorate our home for Ramadan and wanted to put together a single space for you to find some of my recommendations for the holy season. Whether you’re preparing your heart, or you’re preparing your home, these suggestions will help you get started.
Spiritual Preparation for Ramadan
Decorating our home for Ramadan is a great tradition however what about preparing our hearts? Instead of waiting until Ramadan begins to start reading, let’s strive to start our journey in advance. I find so much inspiration and enjoyment in books.
Daily Wisdom, Selections from the Holy Quran is a perfect companion and great for busy moms who feel like they don’t have the time to sit down and read in depth. Each day you can focus on a single passage with some thoughts for reflection. Secrets of Divine Love is another beautiful book for anyone who feels a bit disconnected. There is also a companion journal available now to guide you through the book and your own path of discovery.
Hamza Yusuf’s Purification of the Heart has been out for 10 years now and is an excellent read to start preparing yourself for the blessings of Ramadan. Likewise, Yasmin Mogahed’s Reclaim Your Heart offers hope and a path to protect your heart. Both of these books are a great way to remove some of the cobwebs of the year and prepare for Ramadan.
More traditional books for the holy season include this color-coded Tajweed Quran translation It has both the original Arabic for reciting in the center with the English translation on the outer panels. This is great to have at home but also would make a lovely gift for an older child learning to recite but not comfortable with Arabic. Reflecting on the Names of Allah provides an in depth explanation of all of the names of Allah without being too complicated.
If audiobooks are more your style, The Alchemy of Happiness brings to life the story of al-Ghazali. While not a religious book by definition The Forty Rules of Love is a fictional story that brings the poet Rumi to life as one of the main characters.
Ideas for Ramadan Home Decorations
Choosing home decorations for Ramadan can be tricky but thankfully every year there are more companies – both large and small – that have options available.
To decorate my own home Modefa is one of my first stops. They offer year-round decor options as well as Ramadan and Eid specific products. Decorations, gift wrapping supplies, and party products in multiple different styles can be found on their website.
While not specifically holiday-themed, With a Spin has adorable decorative pieces that I’ve incorporated into our home. There are some Ramadan and Eid products available but so many of the items could work any time of year. The light-up masjid is perfect for Ramadan (or Eid) and the Alhamdulillah cut-out word decor is a great decorative mantle piece.
Crescent Creations is another small business that has a range of different Islamic-themed products. Their Ramadan and Eid decorations are great. They also have several different free printables on the website like a Ramadan kids placemat or kids Ramadan chart.
If you have kids then you have to check out My 1st Masjid. All of their products revolve around the theme of a mosque. From DIY mosque kits to a masjid needle punch kit or a masjid world map, there are so many different products to help your kids connect with the idea of a mosque. I think these learning tools are great especially for younger kids who are just starting to learn. Older children will also enjoy some of the more advanced projects like building a mosque village or the masjid architect stamp set.
